In 1973 I traveled to Bali after seeing a performance of Balinese dance and music on the campus of the University of California at Berkeley. I was so
stunned by the beauty of what I had seen that I closed my school and traveled there six months later. For three and a half months I lived in the village of Peliatan and traveled daily several miles south to the village of Batuan where I studied mask theatre with I Nyoman Kakul. With the exception of the photos of Kakul, all these photos were taken in Peliatan. |
