While driving to visit the Slayton family in Detroit I often stopped to walk around their neighborhood. Coming
from squeaky clean, white, middle-class Detroit, life here in the nit and the grit was in a funny way, a welcome relief, not to
mention the interesting people I met. My camera was an old 35 mm Argus and I hardly knew what I was doing. It is a small miracle
that with all my moving around in the forty years since, that any of these photos have
survived at all.
